Meet the
Feminist Metalist
MAXILLA is a rising metal band from Cleveland, Ohio, founded by the eponymous frontwoman in 2023. Maxilla, the “feminist metalist,” hails from the CT/NY area and began her musical training at the age of seven studying classical and contemporary vocals. In high school, she picked up the electric guitar, training under Rob Thorne of power/thrash metal band Sacred Oath. Maxilla began writing music in 2018 and recording in 2023.
In 2024, she signed to Golden Robot Records, whose star roster includes Gilby Clarke of Guns N’ Roses, Stephen Pearcy of Ratt, and Filter. Under Golden Robot, Maxilla released her debut EP, Cease Your Bleeding, on September 6, 2024, followed by her debut LP, Anatomy: She, on August 8, 2025. Album singles “My Creatures,” “Half Life,” and “Not Yet For You” grew her fanbase exponentially, receiving airplay on SiriusXM Ozzy’s Boneyard among many other stations. Anatomy: She’s release was picked up by Decibel Magazine, Rock Hard Magazine, FemMetal: Goddesses of Metal, Metal Digest, Metal Devastation Radio, Metal Queens Podcast, and many more international news outlets.
In 2025, Maxilla embarked on her first ever tour, fittingly titled Anatomy: Tour, with her full band: Jason Hopper (Drums), Dean Koleszar (Bass), and Parker Schultz (Lead Guitar). The band’s most current tour history includes dates with Starkill, Living Dead Girl, Arsenic Kitchen, Normundy, KAZHA, and Bonnie Trash. At the end of 2025, MAXILLA was nominated Best Metal Band by Cleveland Music Awards. In February 2026, MAXILLA announced their Spitfire Tour, highlighting dates at famed venues like Whisky a Go Go (West Hollywood, California) and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (Cleveland, Ohio). On this spring/summer tour, MAXILLA provides support for Vixen, Enuff Z’Nuff, Burning Witches, Platinum Moon, Vicious Rumors, Flaw, and ALYXX. MAXILLA plans to release a new single in 2026.
MAXILLA draws blood from the same vein as Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, The Warning, and In This Moment. Maxilla’s main musical influences include Pat Benatar, Lzzy Hale, and Hayley Williams, along with Black Sabbath, GHOST, Green Day, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Soundgarden, and Volbeat. However, she cites her father as the true inspiration behind her love of rock. “My dad was the one that got me into rock music. I remember one day he sat me down and had me listen to all his favorite grunge records. From then on, I was hooked.”
Maxilla says, “The fight for women’s equality is the most important thing to me, so that experience is definitely reflected in my lyrics.” Through her powerful vocals and intense rhythm guitar playing, Maxilla brings forth a fresh yet nostalgic sound to both her recorded and live performances. Approaching songwriting through the lens of feminism, Maxilla and her music encompass the beauty of female rage, pushing the boundaries of the male-dominated genres of metal and rock.
